PUTTING GOD TO WORK.
For since the beginning of the world men have not heard, nor perceived by the ear, neither hath the eye seen, O God, beside thee, what he hath prepared for him that waiteth for him.
~ Isaiah 64:4 KJV
Prayer is ordained by God as the means through which He is put to work. The mighty hands of God are set to motion as men pray.
In the eyes of the Living God, a praying man is a man who shows his dependence on God. The Almightiness of God is revealed only by men of prayer, for prayer is a proof of trust and confidence in God.
What does it mean to put God to work?
God has meticulously drawn out a plan of salvation for His children; He has perfected His plans of prosperity, healing, restoration, etc., for His beloved ones. It is prayer that moves the hands of God to swiftly execute His plans and purposes in the lives of His children.
The work of God needs prayers; more so, praying men are in need everywhere, every place. God has so ordained that the prayer of the saints be the driving force of His actions. He has so put will back into the hands of His saints so that they are conditioned on their desires. That is why He says in the Holy Scriptures, Ask and you shall receive.
Prayer affects the three different spheres of existence — the divine, the angelic, and the human. It puts God to work, it puts angels to work, and it puts men to work.
Prayer conveys to the heart of God the earnest desires of the praying soul. It shows the desperation of the hungry heart, and it reveals the utter trust and dependence on the God who wields all authority in the universe.
Prayer puts angels to work in carrying out the designs of God for the life of man. Angels are ministering spirits ordained to minister for man. Thus, prayer quickens them to their purpose. This was the case in the early church when Herod placed Apostle Peter in prison. The Bible says:
Peter therefore was kept in prison: but prayer was made without ceasing of the church unto God for him. (Acts 12:5)
Prayers were made for him. What was the result of these prayers?
Suddenly an angel of the Lord appeared and a light shone in the cell. He tapped Peter on the side and woke him up, saying, “Get up quickly.” And the chains fell off his wrists. (Acts 12:7)
The angel of the Lord was sent to rescue him out of the dungeon of death!
Prayer puts angels to work on behalf of the saints.
All of the plans and the intentions of God concerning your life are revealed as you pray. Your God-ordained future becomes a reality as designed by God when you pray.
To pray and remain in prayers is to keep the hand of God in motion concerning the construction of your destiny. Prayer enables God to effectively work in you and through you all that He has thus ordained.
The prayerless man hinders God's hand. He may not be aware because he doesn't know how glorious God has ordained his life to be. The prayerless man lives every day and faces every day accepting his fate about any matter. He doesn't care about the desires of God for his life; he believes in his own efforts and abilities and relies not on the power of God.
The believer should rejoice in knowing that Jesus has committed Himself to the force of prayers.
"And whatever you ask in My name, that I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son." (John 14:13 NKJV)
If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you. (John 15:7 KJV)
What more assurances do we need to engage in prayers? God answers the cry of His children.
But prayers must be engaged in. Meaningful results are derived from meaningful prayers. Prayer must be engaged in by the soul of man, else he may as well be about other business.
The advancement of the work of the Kingdom and the destiny of a man is hinged as he engages in prayers — as he puts forth his strength in the place of groanings.
This is what the Word of God affirms:
I have set watchmen upon thy walls, O Jerusalem, which shall never hold their peace day nor night: ye that make mention of the LORD, keep not silence, And give him no rest, till he establish, and till he make Jerusalem a praise in the earth. (Isaiah 62:6,7)
Until the desired results are obtained, the praying soul is never to take rest for himself. Continuity in prayers until the objective is achieved is the proof of a soul who trusts in God and in the potency of prayers.
